Seventy-five years ago, the prominent art historian Lloyd Goodrich began a catalogue raisonné of the art of Winslow Homer, with the assistance of his wife Edith. After Edith’s death, the scholar Abigail Booth Gerdts offered her services toward the completion of the project. Since Mr. Goodrich’s death in 1987, the project, under Ms. Gerdts’s direction, was continued with the support of Spanierman Gallery, LLC, New York and the City University of New York, Ph.D. Program in Art History.
In 2005, Spanierman Gallery published the first two volumes of this definitive reference source, Record of Works by Winslow Homer, authored by Lloyd Goodrich and edited the expanded by Abigail Booth Gerdts. The third volume was published in 2008 and two additional volumes will follow. Each hardbound volume includes biographical summaries featuring the years covered. Full references to life-time exhibitions and bibliographical citations are in Volume I.
